How a booked day runs
Before the day
A short call: your boat, your dock or launch, who's riding, insurance rider if your carrier wants one (usually five minutes).
On the water
We handle departure, ballast, wake setup, and every pull. Observer rules, PFDs, shoreline standoffs — handled without being asked.
End of day
Boat docked, flushed if requested, trailered if that's your setup. You never touched the wheel.

How much does it cost to hire a captain for my own boat?

Is it legal to pay someone to drive my boat?
Yes. When you hire a captain for your own recreational boat and your guests aren't paying to be aboard, that's a private trip with professional crew. One important rule: guests genuinely ride free — if guests chip in money, federal charter rules kick in. We operate to the USCG standard on every trip either way.
Does my boat insurance cover a hired captain?
Usually with a quick call: most carriers will add a named, USCG-credentialed captain to your policy — often free or around $25–100. We'll walk you through it during booking; it's typically a five-minute conversation with your agent.
What do you handle on the day?
Everything helm-side: launch or dock departure, ballast and wake setup for each rider, driving every set, spotter coordination, fueling guidance, docking, and trailer retrieval if needed. You handle snacks and towels.
Can you teach my kids to wakeboard or surf while you drive?
Yes — add coaching to any booking for $50/hour. Our captain has ridden for 20+ years and coached riders from first pull to first 360. Kids and nervous beginners are the specialty.
