How much does it cost to hire a boat captain in Seattle?
Sound Captain Co. charges $119/hour on weekdays and $139/hour on weekends to captain your own wake boat, with a 6-hour minimum. Event days (Seafair, Husky sailgating, July 4) are flat-rate from $849. For comparison, captained wakesurf charters in Seattle run $275–340/hour — because you're paying for their boat. On yours, you just pay for the captain.
Why would I hire a captain for my own boat?
Because someone always has to drive — which means the owner surfs least, drives every set, and hosts nothing. A professional wake driver gives each rider a more consistent pull, handles ballast and wake shape, watches falls, and lets you actually be on your own boat with your family and friends.
Do you drive rental boats too?
Yes. If you're renting a wake boat from a marketplace like GetMyBoat or Boatsetter — or the listing requires a captain — you can arrange for us to drive. Platform rules apply, and the rental and captain arrangements stay separate.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Our captain is USCG-licensed — the OUPV ("6-pack") Master Credential — plus CPR and First Aid certified, insured with commercial captain's liability coverage, and enrolled in federal random drug testing.
Can my guests drink if you're driving?
Yes. Washington's boating-under-the-influence law applies to the operator of the boat. When we're at the helm, everyone aboard is a passenger — that's the whole point of a designated captain.
